Marshall Code - Microphone vs Direct USB Recording - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 15, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
Since the Marshall Code has a direct usb feature to record straight into your Daw, I was curious to see what the differences would be between that the using a microphone and doing it the old fashioned way.
Amp modellers and direct recording is essential for my channel due to not being able to crank amps at home. So I took all my gear out the house, cranked it up and recorded using both to compare.

Personally I prefer the USB recording, maybe my mic placement & mic aren't the best so who knows, maybe someone with better equipment could do better but for me personally, the USB feature sounds perfect for what I need and allows me to record at home day or night.

One thing I will note, and I mention this in the video. When using the USB I get a lot of interference, which I left a clip in the video to show you guys, I don't know if I'm maybe using the wrong driver or something and it's an easy fix but if anyone else experienced this issue and fixed it please let me know.
Normally in my reviews I do a few clips of just the guitar without other instruments but all the audio from the USB was full of the interference and was unusable so the demo is shorter than I'd have liked.

Amp settings are identical across both mic and USB, I have shown them in the video. Jubilee with added distortion on the left, American OD with Distortion on the right and JVM with Distortion, Chorus, Delay and Reverb (all stock settings) for the solo. Nothing has been moved or tweaked between takes. This is same settings, no post EQ, just the tone out the speaker/USB cable.
