For many years, I worked to ensure that the style of postmodernism, from which I was even started in the late '80s, was passed - without having to give up altogether - in favor of a new coherence.
So it was that the scores of the first half of the '90s were characterized above all by a constant search for relationships between different music styles, in order to enter a reciprocal relationship through what I called "modulations of style." This new concept of composition has been evolving towards a more coherent homogeneity of the most different music materials. This led to a series of works based on different syntax from very different style areas and which alternated late romantic, impressionistic and expressionistic musical gestures with jazz and new rhythmic concepts derived from structuralism.

Since then, this method of composition has been further developed and strengthened, giving rise to the concept of style that I called, in homage to Hindemith, " Stylistic Gradient ". This concept, to me, is the ability to evaluate in the aesthetic point of view all the so diverse worldwide contemporary sound, not as mere contingent coexistence of different materials - this concept already defined by postmodernism - but as the possibility of a new language that follows-up to the tradition and make it current. The melody is the element which more than any other is a homogenizing agent. A newfound lyricism is the gravitational force around which many different materials allow to merge into each other. At the end, my musical conception is expressed mainly in a rediscovered song, a song beyond the silence. The silence, of course, the ultimate, extraordinary and precious ring of the avant-garde experimentation.

Per molti anni ho lavorato affinché lo stile Postmoderno, dal quale ero pur partito alla fine degli anni '80, fosse superato - senza dovervi rinunciare del tutto - in favore di una nuova coerenza.
Fu così che le partiture della prima metà degli anni '90 si caratterizzarono soprattutto per una ricerca di costanti rapporti tra stili musicali diversi, che entrassero in relazione reciproca attraverso quelle che avevo chiamato
"modulazioni stilistiche". Questa nuova concezione compositiva si è andata evolvendo verso una sempre più coerente omogeneizzazione dei materiali musicali più diversi. Nacquero così una serie di lavori, basati su
diverse sintassi provenienti da aree stilistiche assai differenti e che alternavano gesti musicali tardo romantici, impressionistici e espressionistici con il jazz e le nuove concezioni ritmiche, derivate dallo strutturalismo.
Da allora questa modalità di composizione si è ulteriormente sviluppata e rafforzata, dando origine a quella concezione stilistica che ho chiamato, in omaggio ad Hindemith, "Gradiente Stilistico". Questo concetto, per me, rappresenta la possibilità di valutare esteticamente tutto il mondo sonoro contemporaneo così eterogeneo, non come mera compresenza
contingente di materiali diversi - concezione questa già definita dal Postmoderno -, ma come possibilità di un nuovo linguaggio che si riallacci alla tradizione e la renda attuale. L'elemento, che più di ogni altro si pone come agente omogeneizzante, è la melodia. Una ritrovata cantabilità è la forza gravitazionale attorno alla quale i materiali più disparati accettano di fondersi gli uni negli altri. In fondo la mia concezione musicale si esprime soprattutto in un canto ritrovato, un canto oltre il silenzio. Il silenzio, appunto, l'ultimo, straordinario e più prezioso anello della sperimentazione avanguardistica».
