Sebatron VMP 4000e Drum Overhead Shootout - Shure KSM 137 Small Diaphragm Condenser - Video
PUBLISHED:  Aug 16, 2017
DESCRIPTION:
The Sebatron VMP 4000e is a great tube preamplifier for drums! In this video, we put the Shure KSM 137 small-diaphragm condenser microphone through the preamp at 12 different settings in a Mono Overhead position:

At each of the three pad settings (-25db, -15db, 0db), we've recorded the same performance with the following EQ settings: flat, Bright, Air, and Deep. During tracking, the preamp was set to peak at -6db, and then all files have been normalized so you're only hearing what the preamp is doing to the sound.

Other details of the shootout:

- Drums are by GMS: 14"x22" Super Vintage bass drum, 6.5"x13" Revolution Brass snare drum, Grand Master Series 9"x12" and 14"x15" floor tom.
- Cymbals are Sabian: 14" HHX Legacy Hats, 20" HH Artisan Elite Ride, 18" and 20" HH Vanguard Crashes.
- Heads by Aquarian: Texture Coated on snare drum, Modern Vintage II on toms, coated Force 1 on bass drum.
- Conversion through Ferrofish A16 Mk II
- Recorded at Triple Colossal Studios in Hoboken, New Jersey
