Van Driver of the Year - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jul 19, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Hi again Dan,
To outline the chain of events:-
Your driver pulled into our forecourt to deliver a broken down bike. We are pretty limited for space particularly so at busy times as was the case this morning. It would have been obvious to the driver that by parking where he did, he had effectively blocked off the through way but left it parked there anyway - rather than pulling back out onto the road or indeed the large lay by opposite.
During the time he was on site other vehicles had arrived and one had blocked his forward exit, however, once again it would have been obvious to him that this vehicle would (or certainly could) have been moved imminently.
He chose not to wait and proceeded to reverse out. He firstly clipped the rear end of an Alfa Romeo with his nearside front door (or close to the door panel) then carried on backwards and straight into and over the boundary wall. He then drove off without stopping or reporting the damage. Indeed our attention was only drawn to your van because the engine was being revved to the maximum and the van driven off at high speed.
In my opinion the driver must have known of his actions and the consequences by the manner in which he left the site, but if he actually was not aware then he really should not be driving at all as he would then undoubtedly be a danger to all other road users.
Fortunately the Alfa is only an old banger which belongs to us the damage is negligible, however the wall is not only smashed down at the final section but cracks are apparent further along having been weakened by the impact.
We will obtain a quotation for the repairs to the wall but are not worried about the mark on the Alfa.
Thanks for your anticipated cooperation with this matter - please let me have your thoughts on this.
This email contains attachment with photos, another will follow shortly with the cctv footage which speaks for itself.
Yours sincerely
