DubCasting feat Dr Das from Satsang TV on Vimeo.

Bassist/performer/producer Dr Das was one of the founder members of Asian Dub Foundation (ADF), which developed out of a youth music workshop he was running at London based music organization CM in 1993. He left ADF at the end of 2005 to resume his exploration of dub related experimental music and engage in new collaborations.

He has since played bass with the likes of Red Cardell from Brittany, jazz clarinetist

Arun Ghosh, Istanbul's Baba Zula and Dub Colossus (the Ethiopian project).

Dr Das’s debut solo album EMERGENCY BASSLINES (2006) is an instrumental set where his trademark bass melodies guide you through a dense jungle of distorted Indian percussion. The overall sound is both militant and optimistic, reflecting a world in a state of flux. His sound is influenced by Dub, 23 Skidoo's percussion-based minimalism, the caustic soundscapes of Muslimgauze and Miles Davis’s 70s output, particularly the stark electric funk of “Dark Magus.”

THE CURRENT DR DAS LIVE SHOW, ALSO KNOWN AS "EMERGENCY BASS SOUND SYSTEM" FEATURES DR DAS ON BASS AND VOICE, BANTU ON AKAI MPC AND DUBBING AND RAMJAC ON DJEMBE AND PERCUSSION. THE APPROACH IS "DUBPROVISATION" - THREE WAY IMPROVISATION AND MUSICAL INTERACTION, THE IDEA BEING TO STRETCH OUT AND DECIMATE THE ORIGINAL SONG STRUCTURES.

For several years now, Dr Das has been producing and remixing for INDIGENOUS RESISTANCE (IR), the collective who, along with sister organization THE FIRE THIS TIME (TTFT) highlight the struggle of indigenous people worldwide through their dub/dance releases.
