My name is Arnold aka djspooks. I was born in Kenya, but moved to New York when I was young boy. My parents settled in Jamaica queens New York 169 st close to hillside ave. it's was hard growing up because of the new culture, new friends, different surroundings. As a young guy it was much easier coping with than coming here a grown man. I went to locale schools here a made lots of friends. We all had a lot in common because music. The international language. I got into music when I started hanging out at my friends house after school. One of my friends in the 8th grade had a couple of old techniques turntables and we used to go there and play around with it for hours. I practiced with them until I knew the basics. Then one Christmas I begged my parents to buy me a pair of turntables. I guess I was lucky, I got Gemini pt2000, and they were cheap but close to techniques. From there it was on, I started play at basement partys, house partys, school dances, any gig that I could get to save up more money. It took time but I got better and better as time went. My friends went on to become battle djs, radio djs and club djs in New York. For me it was complicated because I had to move to Texas for school. I carried parts of my equipments to Texas but never really had any luck with vinals. Texas was pretty back on the hip-hop/reggae vinals. I tried to go back and forth New York Texas but it became too expensive. I bought myself a pair of scratch cd players and cut my expenses by half. In Texas I met a couple of djs but their crowd was a lot different, it included African and Jamaican crowd. So it's was another culture shock. It was like going back to my roots. I played for a while, until the crowed got the hang of me. Then I stated throwing parties all around Texas. From Dallas/Fortworth/Austin/Houston/Tyler and invitations all over America. I participated in many community parties and it's been the bomb no regrets. I still felt like I needed more and this is where I found my other talents. I got into promotions, concerts, studio recording and last but not least freestyle aka rapping. It all started when I made mix tapes in my room and rapped in Swahili and English. My friends heard it and they showed love on the tracks. Growing up in queens also had an effect on my style. Its a place where legends come from. Artist likes LLcoolj, Run Dmc, and too many too mention. My motivation came from the hip hop scene in Africa which is growing and becoming so huge. I wouldn't mind to be part of the movement.hip hop Africa it's where it all started. To be continued.
