The story of Chava may sound familiar to many as it starts like that of anyone else calling him/herself a musician. The passion for music as a young boy, the looking up to the then super stars and imagining ones self in their shoes, the hustling to get noticedAll these he went through and is probably still going trough some. He even had musicians who inspired him and shaped up a musical style which today is unique to only one person, Chava. Well, that is where the difference came in. Chava did not have a tupac cd. Heck, he did not even know of Tupac until his death! As a young boy, Chava drew his inspiration from the likes of Ragga muffin legend Shabba Ranks, Soul sensation Michael Bolton, Abba, African reggae superstar Lucky Dube, Yvonne Chakachaka, Prince Eyango, Samba Mapangala, Chiko Chikaya, Brenda Fassie and a host of other great musicians. These were the vital ingredients to this blend of a style that he even cannot start describing. When asked what kind of music he does, he offers a blank eye that reads nothing but mixed-up surety. He knows what he wants in his sound but has no clue what its called and prefers to leave it at that. A Kenyan by birth, Chava grew up in a family which, to his preference, appreciated talent and knew that medical and engineering schools were not for everyone, no matter how smart they were. At a time when there was mounting pressure on every parent to produce the next Kenyan Einstein, his father was busy encouraging him to pursue what he loved to do and what he did best, entertaining. As a student at Musingu High School, Chava was a prolific entertainer, fishing laughs even out of the most stone-faced anti-anythingnot-in the-syllabus (curriculum) terrorists disguised as teachers thanks to his mastery of the art of comedy. He participated in all school activities in whose definition the word creativity could fit. It was while in high school and due to the constant encouragement from his father that he developed the courage to finally declare that entertainment was his lifeline, a decision to this day many still consider non-mainstream and misguided. Well, here is news for those still waiting for this phase to pass. It is here to stay! The advent of the music industry in Kenya opened a whole new chapter in Chavas life. A timely God-sent gift, it sprayed an array of hope to the development of art in a nation where pop music was almost non-existent. With this came digital music production a concept that was being embraced by many for its possibilities both as an affordable alternative to analogue production and for its ease of use. Chava was not left behind as he set out to learn his first software, Fruity Loops. He now boasts knowledge of over 20 different software applications for music production, which has greatly influenced his ability to constantly do his music. From his own record label back in Kenya called Rockhouze Records, he now records from his house in New Jersey, US. He has teamed up with a few talented recording artists as they set out to start on a journey familiar to many, that through the valley of hustling.
