2016 Ocean Awareness Student Contest (Film) - Our Job - by Ryan Healey and Team - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 27, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
Why:
Rap has always been a tool for change in society. It brings people from all walks of life together and shines a light on issues that others may want to remain in the dark. The abuse of the ocean is an issue that has been pushed under the rug, so as to prevent us from being made accountable for our crimes against it. No one wants to hear that the trash they haphazardly throw away is suffocating innocent sea creatures. No one wants to hear that herbicides and pesticides used to produce their food is running off into the ocean and poisoning defenseless animals. No one wants to hear that the ships and oil rigs that bring us supplies are releasing sound waves that disrupt the lives of marine animals. So often we are unable to equate the needs of humans with the needs of the ocean. We see their struggles as a vital sacrifice for our own survival, even though they did not ask to suffer for our benefit. Some would like us to believe that polluting the ocean is a necessary evil if humans want to continue to prosper.
But we don't believe that.
We believe that the ocean doesn't have to be a casualty in the fight to advance the human race. We must work to promote the diversity and beauty of the ocean because it is our job to preserve the ocean, not to pollute it.

Lyrics:
And you always hear, hear the hippies say "we love the trees" and "save the earth, stop digging up our own grave"
This species is evolving we pollute, some day this bubble will pop
Yeah we've gone down hill but never is it too late to stop
We can reverse this move, spread the word our word is true
Clean our acts and act to do, our job 'cus it's our home too
We drop drop our trash, spill our oil and spend our cash
We can change our ways but we must change today and make it fast

And the world is falling down and we all just watch it drown but it's not too late to fix it 'cus it's our job

So take a step back and find a new perspective
Mother earth has given us the gift of life and still we do not respect it
The tides can change I'm saying we can make it, we can change it
But we all have to commit to it get up and don't delay this
And stop waiting time is taking ticking by our time is vacant
And we gotta do this now because we have no earth replacement
And it's obvious a statement but there's no time here for patience you gotta take the word and say it, yeah

And the world is falling down and we all just watch it drown, but it's not too late to fix it 'cus it's our job
And the world is falling down and we all just stand around, but it's not too late to fix it 'cus it's our job

The ocean is so vital protect as we must
Carbon footprint bigger than a dinosaur because
we know not what we do, we consume then we pollute for something that we need so muchit'ss something we abuse
And its truth now
We need all of you now
And you thinkin "I could make a difference but I'm wondering how"
Well, take a look at your lifestyle
Cut back and in a while
We could see a real world change
A real world change, a real world change, and in a while we could see a real world change

And the world is falling down, and we all just watch it drown, but it's not too late to fix it 'cus it's our job
