Junkyard never attained the same level of commercial success achieved by other pop-metal acts of the late 80s like Motley Crue, but they were at least as deserving of such success.
Mixing pop metal with classic Southern rock, Junkyard's debut album blew me away when it came out. I was a huge Lynyrd Skynyrd fan and had long been curious what it might sound like if a band took Skynyrd's sound and made it heavier.
Junkyard proved to be just the band I was looking for. Songs like "Blooze" and "Texas" just plain rock out, while "Simple Man" really does make you want to "grab your keys and your cigarettes and disappear into the night" even if like myself, you don't actually smoke. "Hands Off" is arguably the best song on the album - both lyrically and musically this song shows what a special band Junkyard were.
Junkyard rocked and lived hard, and were said to be difficult to drag into the studio to record albums. Thus, we are left with only two real albums by these guys, the first of which I believe to be the best. If you do find that you like Junkyard's Junkyard as much as I do, try your best to find an old copy of their fine follow-up Sixes, Sevens, and Nines.
These guys should have been stars"

We are strictly a DIY organization. That means when you get a hold of us or try to book a show you are actually dealing with one of the 5/6 of us, not some agency. That also explains why we play infrequently.
Here a link that explains our touring situation.

A fan posted a question about why we don't tour the USA or get out much and play as much as some of the o ther bands do. Below is an explanationwe urge you to read it.
Our situation is a little complex. Rather then have "Junkyard Version 2" or Junkyard featuring "Insert OG band member here" we choose to do it as the original lineup (most of the time sans Baker.but if it fits within his schedule he will be there). The last thing we want to do is water it down.
Junkyard without David and Chris would be an outright crime. You will never see the band without David or Chris. If Pat, Todd or Tim cant make it then we will usually cancel the show or have an old friend (no one famousjust an old cronie from back in the day) fill in. There will never be a listing that says: Junkyard, featuring Chris Gates.or Junkyard, featuring Singer from another band from "back in the day".or let alone 2 different Junkyards.
We all went our separate ways (musically) years ago (no bad blood in our disbandment) and actually became pretty successful at it. Its hard for a lot of people to understand our take when it comes to touring and playing gigs. We have explained it quite a few times. Some get it, others dont want to hear it. We are 5 guys that get a kick hanging out with each other. We are a band.but not really. We don't have management or a booking agency. We do it ourselves. We all are working stiff's with families and mortgages. We all play in different bands and don't really look at Junkyard as our "main" band or career. When an opportunity comes our way (RGW, Europe, etc) we dont look at it from a marketing point of viewwe take a long look at it and ask ourselves.are we gonna have fun? 9 times out of 10 the answer is yes! I guess thats why when we play its more an event rather then just another gig. We have only had to get a "non-original/hired gun" to fill in for one show since we got back together.and that was a good friend who we all knew already!
We were looking forward to it as much as y'all. Make sure to email the good people at Rocklahoma, your local venue or wherever you want us to play and request Junkyard.
