O álbum "Menescantando", do qual esta música faz parte, é meu tributo Roberto Menescal, um homem maravilhoso, compositor, músico, produtor, que sempre admirei.
Apesar dos seus respeitáveis 50 anos de idade, "O Barquinho" não tem uma ruga! Composta em 1961, "O Barquinho" nasceu da tentativa frustrada de Menescal de levar um grupo de amigos (eram uns 8, entre eles, Nara Leão, Ronaldo Bôscoli, e Yara, sua mulher) a fazer pesca submarina em Cabo Frio num dia ensolarado e luminoso. Mas, a meio da tarde o motor do barquinho parou em mar aberto e a bateria morreu! Menescal e os amigos tentaram em vão fazer pegar o motor com a manivela que ao girar fazia um "taca-taca-taca-taca", mas nada! Acabaram por ser resgatados à noite, sem terem conseguido pescar, mas com uma história para contar. Menescal e Bôscoli adaptarem o barulho da manivela ao ritmo da música e contaram a aventura desse dia que até hoje nos encanta!

The album "Menescantando", from which this song is extracted, is my tribute to Roberto Menescal, the wonderful man, composer, musician, producer, whom I always admired.
Despite being a 50-year old song, "O Barquinho" ("Little Boat") doesn't have a single wrinkle! Composed in 1961, it tells the story of an unsuccessful fishing trip that Menescal took on a little boat with a group of friends (there were about 8 of them, among which Nara Leão, Ronaldo Bôscoli and Yara, Menescal's wife) to Cabo Frio on a bright sunny day. In the middle of the afternoon, the engine stopped working in the open sea and they found themselves adrift! Menescal and his friends tried to make it work by consistently cranking the engine which would go "taka-taka-taka-taka", but the engine was dead! They ended up being rescued at night, without having fished, but with a good story to tell. Menescal and Bôscoli adapted the cranking to the rhythm of the song and wrote the lyrics about the adventure of that day, which enchants us to this day!
