History of Nelson Mandela
Son of a tribal chief in 1940 had to interrupt his studies of science because he joined a strike. Would later become a lawyer. In 1944 he founded, along with Oliver Tambo and Walter Sisulu, the youth league of the African National Congress. The government outlawed the movement, and in 1960, Mandela went underground. As head of the illegal organization Spear of the Nation, who also opposed racial segregation, was arrested in 1962 and two years later was sentenced to life imprisonment for treason. Since then, many international voices calling for his release. After 26 years in prison for opposing racism, Nelson Mandela was released in 1990. In 1991 he decreed the end of Apartheid.
