OK ... so what do you do , other than just film a music video but to film the making of the video !
Db's Feet AboveThe Ground was made with a small hand-held camera, a homemade jib boom and dolly, DIY lighting, some willing hands, a big empty hall .... all encapsulated in a director's vision and realization.

It is exciting enough to put music and images together but I hope this shows what is possible with a low budget , lo-fi improvisation method , and just keeping focused on the artists and the song . I was amazed and inspired by how , after a lot of waiting around for suitable light conditions , the event quickly gathered momentum , getting camera distances and points of focus , trajectories of dolly movements and filming successive takes .
Although there isn't a large crew and truckloads of equipment , once the stage is set and the lights are glaring away , the soundtrack is cranked up , and all those musos start doing their miming thing , it's like a groundhog-in-loop mini-gig repeating over in anticipation of a wider audience viewing in ... i felt like i had already seen the vid several times onscreen already !

I wanted to try and show some different angles of the crew at work , show the "equipment" in action , and also some shots of the musicians playing the song , but not get in the way too much .
I am no pro with my camera and the lighting is all , or nothing , in determining whether one catches those special ... or tragic mishap moments .... well , let's just say i could tell you a story about Simon's scaffolding boom and the eye-in-the-sky camera - but at least I got the instant on film .
And that is worth the record , because when things go wrong , and opportunity pulls us right back into the creative flow , you know that none of this is a silly idea .... we are just showing what is meant to be .

Not having the same criteria as "the film crew" stimulates the imagination as to decide what to record , but it is fun running around with my eyes on the camera screen , alongside a smoothly coursing and swerving three-man pushcart palette on wheels . And then what pop clip is complete without driving a range rover around the room .

So i hope whatever "Making Of ..." surfaces may give a worthy glimpse of some of the behind-the-scenes activity that helped this video manifest from a simple idea into multi-media reality .

And if you really are Feet Above The Ground then it will be no surprise as to how my final galactic speed spin-shot was achieved at the end of the evening .....to be appreciated surely by real time special effects buffs - but hey , you know what editors are like .... they always cut the best bits !
