The oldest of three children, born in Valdosta, Georgia, raised in Virginia and Maryland, LaShonda grew up listening to music spawned from the birth of MTV, as well as, her fathers' R&B, funk and rock collection. She penned her first song at age 12, affectionately named "Candy Treat".



While she dabbled in songwriting as a hobby, she put her creativity on the shelf and fell in love. It was after the demise of a 10-year tumultuous courtship that she began a life changing experience which she credits as helping to recapture her female swagger. With the knowledge and experience of lifes lessons, she realized she had natural creative ways to express her joy and pain. With the aid of long-time friend and producer, Michael Rowland, she quickly learned the mechanics of recording demos.

Since April of last year, she has had a much greater opportunity to develop, both as a songwriter, producer, and arranger. This is largely attributed to her associate membership with the Songwriters Hall of Fame, National Academy of Popular Music (NAPM). She also began networking with other producers and songwriters, such as Joseph B. Jefferson, renowned for his legendary hits "Sadie" and "It Takes A Fool (To Learn That Love Dont Love Nobody)" and Ryan Toby, well-known for his work with his band "City High", the hit "What Would You Do?", and his new club banger "Just My Thang". Both have been instrumental mentors.



She crafts short, well-structured lyrics with memorable melodic hooks, covering a variety of topics from an introspective view of relationships, to self-forgiveness, and social issues that make you think while youre bumpin to the beat.



LaShonda is one of the rising songwriters on the R&B, Pop, and Inspirational circuit.
