Travis Orbin - First Cyclamen Session - "Forgotten Sky" (RE-UPLOAD) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Aug 26, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
Recently, it dawned on me that all of my footage from my previous video clips is cached in iMovie. I'm especially fond of this tune and decided to redo it with continuous playback. This was originally uploaded in November of 2009. Thanks to everyone that commented, 'liked' and 'favorited' the clip.

Here is a slightly revised video description that correlates to the new version:

Finally, there's "Forgotten Sky." This one is groovy, sexy, and dark and mysterious all at once. The choruses and bridge are beautiful and the whole piece is pulled off with much conviction.

There are a myriad of very minor details that I wanted to nail to complement the mood of the tune. Some of the fill-ins during the verses are played delicately to create tension. The entire first chorus is played more delicately in general with less crash strikes than the second and some pedal hi-hat action. The second chorus promotes more crash strikes, kick drums and fill-ins to heighten the dynamics and give the whole piece forward motion. There's even a brief metric modulation that begins at 3:04 to give a little push into the bridge. The ending is played very intensely with open hi-hat strikes and double bass spurts. Following this is a pretty neat pattern-- the kick drum starts with six beats and builds with two additional beats after every bar, following the bass guitar. This leads into the last fill-in at 4:38. After that, I'm beating the living crap out of everything and there's a dramatic triplet fill-in to close the tune.

I attempted to upload these videos so many times it makes me dizzy. I ended up having to divide the original clip into three sections. YouTube needs to get it together...
