CUT

We are CUT a rock and roll band from Italy. We’ve been playing since 1996 now and we’ve released five albums, one E.P. and one split 7” for Italian labels Gamma Pop, Homesleep Music, Riff and Go Down Records.
Our sound has been described in many ways but the band’s favourite is still: “John Lee Hooker stuck in a post-punk straitjacket” (http://www.pennyblackmusic.co.uk).
We have been touring Italy constantly and we’ve also played across the UK and mainland Europe a few times, thus earning a reputation as one of the wildest Italian live bands ever. We take a lot of pride in that.
Through the years, we’ve played alongside many cool bands such as The Make Up, Unwound, Ulan Bator, Uzeda, Royal Trux, International Noise Conspiracy, Eels, Delta '72, Man Or Astroman, Old Time Relijun, The Hives, Heavy Trash, Violent Femmes and we always had a great time.
Our latest album has been recorded and mixed by Matt Verta-Ray of Speedball Baby/Heavy Trash fame in his New York studio, NY HED.
The mastering has been taken care of by no other than Mr. Ivan Julian, from legendary punk wave outfit Richard Hell and The Voidoids.
The whole experience has been a trip and we’ve have been putting it all in our new record.
The album’s titled “ANNIHILATION ROAD” and it kills. It’s been released by Go Down Records and it’s out now. Get a copy and come to our shows. Or come to our shows and get a copy, it doesn’t matter as long as you check us out.

I CUT sono una rock band di stanza a Bologna, nata nel 1996. La loro attività è stata la scintilla che ha contribuito alla nascita e allo sviluppo di una delle più importanti etichette indipendenti italiane, Gamma Pop. La loro discografia conta cinque album e un E.P. per la stessa Gamma Pop e per un’altra istituzione della scena come Homesleep Music. Di recente la band ha realizzato un 7” split con i Settlefish per l’etichetta Riff Records di Bolzano.
Il suono dei CUT è stato descritto in vari modi ma forse il più azzeccato è stato coniato dalla webzine UK Pennyblack Music: “John Lee Hooker stuck in a postpunk straitjacket” ovvero “John Lee Hooker nella camicia di forza del postpunk” (http://www.pennyblackmusic.co.uk)
L’attività live del gruppo ha toccato ripetutamente ogni angolo della penisola e non solo: i CUT contano infatti tre tour europei e date negli Stati Uniti nel loro carnet. In questo modo i CUT si sono conquistati la loro fama di selvaggia e coinvolgente live band.

L’ultimo album dei CUT “A Different Beat”, è stato pubblicato nel 2006 in Italia e in Inghilterra riscontrando un’ottima accoglienza da parte della stampa specializzata.
Tre anni dopo, durante l’inverno del 2009 la band è tornata in studio per realizzare il suo nuovo progetto:
ANNIHILATION ROAD
Per le session del nuovo album “ANNIHILATION ROAD” la band si è trasferita temporaneamente a New York presso lo studio di MATT VERTA-RAY, chitarrista e socio di Jon Spencer negli Heavy Trash. L’idea di una collaborazione tra i CUT e MV-R è nata dopo aver condiviso il palco in occasione di un tour italiano degli Heavy Trash nel 2006. Del resto nel suo studio del Lower East Side Matt ha registrato artisti del calibro di Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, 20 Miles, Kid Congo Powers, Ronnie Spector, Andre Williams, Mick Collins, Mooney Suzuky, Robert Quine: nessuno sembrava più qualificato per catturare il suono dei CUT!
Se Matt ha registrato e mixato il disco, il mastering è stato realizzato da Ivan Julian, ex chitarrista delle leggende del punk di New York “Richard Hell and the Voidoids”! Inutile dire che questo costituisce un’ulteriore punto d’orgoglio per la band…
Questo album segna inoltre l’inizio della collaborazione tra i CUT e la Go Down Records, etichetta che da anni sta portando avanti la causa del rock and roll più sanguigno e potente, un contesto ideale per i CUT e per questo disco in particolare.
