INTERVIEW:

Hi I'm Dwayne and next to me is my mate Josh. The reason for us sitting here in front of this camera is so I can nominate Josh to be RNV's next protégé. Josh and i met at RNV last year, needless to say we had a great time. Josh is a real people person and has a true passion for music and events.

Before the age of 18 he has managed to pull of two phenomenal events and has shown characteristics uncommon to most young people.
I have asked Josh along to conduct an interview... would you like to tell the viewers a bit about yourself and your dodgy past?

I was born and raised in Auckland, I am currently still here, studying Event Management at AUT.

It all started as a naïve 16 year old, I decided to organize an event with a friend we managed to sell tickets to a crowed of 900. We gave them the whole package from busses to food and beverage whilst being entertained by a few heavyweight local artists such as Dick Johnson and Daniel Farley.

This led to a few smaller club events.

Then with success of my first event i wanted to do another large scale one at the start of 7th form. I teamed up with a good friend James and we managed to pull off another event with 1200 people this time we brought over an international 'Goodwill' Ministry of Sound and that was also a rewarding success.

So from the success of these two experiences you've had, how do you think they will help you become RNV's next protégé?

Although it has only been two events I have definitely grown to appreciate the hard work ethic that is required. Event management is crisis management, although there is a lot of fun involved there is an enormous amount of work and attention to detail behind the scenes. As we know it involves lots of problem solving and a professional but yet relaxed character when dealing with people. I remember being taught even the little things like how to communicate and use the right terminology when emailing artist agents, radio agencies and the likes.

I have also spent my birthday in a police station negotiating the liquor licensing laws. I think the poor policeman thought I was mad, I wasn't even 18 which was a bit of a laugh.

All these aspects take a lot of energy and as a young person I think I have that energy and drive for this industry.

I understand you are in the early stages of your third event with a rather MAJOR international act. What can you tell us about this?

Yeah my business partner and i recently founded our own enterprise with 'The Quiet Life Promotions' as one of our brands. We are in our early stages of organising our New Zealand end of year tour. Unfortunately that's all I can say for now!

As a young DJ yourself, this is where your passion for music has evolved from. Us boys are always scabbing your music and having played at the likes of Nightcap, Boys Noize, and recently at Cheap Thrills down in Dunedin, that must be pretty thrilling supporting some of the big dogs in the industry.

Ha yea I am one of many I'm sure. I defiantly love my music and hunting around for new tracks and artists. Playing out has opened heaps of doors and it is always good to spin a yarn with people who share the same interests.

You've got NZ Fashion Week next week. I can't imagine models skanking to Borgore or Datsik down the runway, Are there any particular genres you go by?

No not at all it all depends on the mood, I don't like the thought of limiting myself. Yeah I commonly play my breaks, drum n bass, dubstep and electro but there are others in the crate. I love my roots and kiwi dub on a Sunday or some oldies like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.

The big idea, where would you like to see yourself in 10 years time?

To be apart of the RNV team would be ideal, it would be a dream come true and I would drop everything for it.
One day I would like to travel around and see what the world has to offer. The likes of Glastonbury, Cream Fields, Park Life, and Tomorrow Lands are all on the bucket list. I hope one day I can bring those ideas and experiences back to create my own iconic festival here in New Zealand.

To cap it off, we need as many votes as possible to ensure Josh gets through the first round and one step closer to becoming RNV's next protégé!

Thank you,

Dwayne & Josh
