PUBLISHED:  Nov 12, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
Official video for the song "New Arithmetic" from Girls in Trouble's third album, "Open the Ground." Stop-motion animation by Corrie Beth Hogg.

"New Arithmetic" is a song about math, feminism, and ancient Jewish text. It's written in the voices of the daughters of Tzelofchad - hard to say, but a fantastic Torah story about five daughters who singlehandedly convince Moses to change the laws of inheritance to include women.

Music and lyrics by Alicia Jo Rabins/Girls in Trouble. Vocals, violin and electric guitar: Alicia Jo Rabins. Bass: Aaron Hartman. Cello: Colette Alexander. Keyboards: Mike Clark. Recorded by Jason Powers at Type Foundry Studios, Portland Oregon; mixed by Karl Blau at Unknown, Anacortes WA.

Girls in Trouble is an art-pop/indie-folk song cycle about the complicated lives of Biblical women, created and performed by Alicia Jo Rabins, along with Aaron Hartman and a rotating cast of musical collaborators in NYC and Portland.
