Minor Swing is a one of the most popular swing tunes composed by the legendary French Gypsy jazz originators Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. The pair recorded the tune as a 78 single in 1937 with their group The Quintet of the Hot Club of France. The band's personnel included Joseph Reinhardt and Eugene Vees on rhythm guitars and Louis Vola on bass.

In 1973, Grappelli revived his string band jazz music and debuted at the Cambridge Festival in England with two guitars and a bass. The band was a hit and, at age 65, Stephane Grappelli had a new career! While he was touring internationally with the Diz Disley Trio, I auditioned for Grappelli's group on guitar and became his student on violin. We played many venues together - including Carnegie Hall - often performing twin violin pieces and bouncing improvisational solos back and forth. -Mark O'Connor

This violin solo version was arranged by Mark O'Connor and inspired by his own lessons and performing experience with the iconic Stephane Grappelli for the O'Connor Method Book IV and its companion CD "MOC 4" released 2014.

This video is the actual footage from the professional CD recording session. Violin students can see the performers as they record the very rendition that Mark O'Connor authored for his Method and is included in Book IV. O'Connor and played through a matched pair of Neumann M49 microphones circa 1953.
