PUBLISHED:  Oct 28, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
Coda are a group of seven singers and musicians from around Westport, Co Mayo, Ireland. They sing a selection of both a capella and self-accompanied songs. Fionnghuala features on Coda's first album 'mouthmusic' released in 2013. Coda are Declan Askin, Brian Lennon, Alan Drumm, Mike Cannon, Steve Bryant, Leonard Kelly and Conall Ó Domhnaill. They are currently recording their second album.
The song itself ('An bothain bh'aig Fionnghuala') was originally collected by Coda member Conall's brother, the late Mícheál Ó Domhnaill, who sang and recorded it with Mick Hanley and Monroe (featuring on their Celtic Folkweave album). He then recorded it with his sister Tríona and The Bothy Band (Old Hag You Have Killed Me; The Best Of The Bothy Band; Live In Concert; Gaelic Voices) and later with Nightnoise on their 'Shadow of Time' album. It has subsequently been recorded by various other artists including Anúna.
