DESCRIPTION:
The celebrations commemorating the Beatles performance in the US for the first time have started. 50 years ago in February 1964, The Beatles invaded America and made history appearing on the Ed Sullivan show.
The Beatles are most likely the most influential musical group of all time. Their music travelled to every single corner of the globe. You can find Beatles tribute bands in almost every country in the world. Hundreds of biographies have been written about the fab four, the latest "Tune In: The Beatles: All These Years, Vol. 1" by Mark Lewisohn took 10 years of research.
When I heard the music of the Beatles for the very first time I was completely blown away. It was so happy, contagious and it made me feel good. I became a major Beatles fan back in Peru. I learned the lyrics phonetically of many of their songs. I could sing Let it Be or Yesterday without knowing what I was saying. Finally, when I moved to the US and learned English I found out the real meaning of the songs.
I don't have any of the Beatles covers recorded on any of my albums, but I do have a section during my live performances dedicated to them. I perform and I tell stories about being a "Beatlemaniaco" in between Yararavies and Afro Peruvian music. As for many musicians from my generation in Latin America, I was heavily influenced by Rock and Roll and Folk music.
Here is my version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." I took many liberties with the arrangement, especially in the guitar solo part that, as you all well know, it was originally performed by Eric Clapton.
By the way, I like the Stones also.


Las celebraciones conmemorando la primera presentación de los Beatles en los Estados Unidos han empezado. Hace 50 años Los Beatles invadieron América en Febrero de 1964 e hicieron historia actuando en el Show de Ed Sullivan.
Los Beatles son muy probablemente el grupo musical más influyente en los últimos tiempos. Su música ha viajado a todos los rincones del globo. Se puede encontrar bandas de tributo a los Beatles en casi todos los países del mundo. Cientos de biografías se han escrito sobre los Fab Four, la última " Tune In: The Beatles: All These Years , Vol. 1 . " de Mark Lewisohn tomó 10 años de investigación.
Cuando escuché la música de los Beatles por primera vez, me quedé completamente impresionado. Era una música alegre, contagiosa y me hacía sentir muy bien. Me convertí en un gran fan de los Beatles en el Perú. Aprendí las letras fonéticamente de muchas de sus canciones. Podía cantar "Let it Be" o "Yesterday" sin saber lo que estaba diciendo. Finalmente, cuando me emigré a los EE.UU. y aprendí inglés, descubrí el verdadero significado de sus canciones.
Yo no he grabado ninguna de las canciones de los Beatles en mis discos, pero sí tengo una sección durante mis presentaciones en vivo dedicada a ellos. En mis conciertos yo cuento historias acerca de ser un "Beatlemaniaco " entre Yararavies y música afroperuana. Como muchos músicos de mi generación en América Latina, yo fui muy influenciado por el Rock and Roll y la música Folklorica.
Aquí está mi versión de "Mientras mi Guitarra Llora Suavemente". Me tomé muchas libertades con el arreglo, especialmente en la parte del solo de guitarra que, como todos ustedes saben, la interpretó originalmente Eric Clapton.
A propósito, también me gustan los Rolling Stones.
