Only several months after the conclusion of the "Weight" world tour in late 1994, the Rollins Band was already back in rehearsal working on new material for another album. It didn't take long before they had come up with more than an album's worth of material and by 1996 the band was back in studio to record their fifth and last studio album. Released in 1997 by the now-defunct DreamWorks Records, "Come In And Burn" was considered, by all band members, to be their last collaborative work as that lineup of the Rollins Band. By the end of their 1997 tour supporting the album, Sim Cain, Melvin Gibbs and Chris Haskett left the band for various other projects, while vocalist and bandleader Henry Rollins recruited the members of Mother Superior to be his new band. Several years after its release, "Come In And Burn" went out of print and DreamWorks Records was bought out by MCA, thus giving the title back to Rollins who later remixed and re-released the album in 2005 on his own 2.13.61 label as a two-disc set including all the B-sides and alternate versions of several songs. The track "Starve" was released as the album's only single.
