strobe session 33 - can.ky.ree - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Can.Ky.Ree performs at Chicago's Strobe Recording for the third Thursday live session.

.. Can.Ky.Ree performs hauntingly beautiful songs of love and loss and fate that sound like they might have slipped out of the dark end of Tin Pan Alley; aching minor-key melodies in ¾ time; a beguine, a tarantella; shadowy cumbias and moonlit musettes. This music is very good for listening or drinking to, and those who drink while listening have been known to dance in unpredictable ways. The melancholy one's voice carries the scars and stories of a nine-year lost weekend busking the streets of Paris. The quiet one's hands float over the ivories as though hes just spilled a drink on Satie's piano. With an arsenal of wind instruments, the one to the left whispers and wails, while the fervent one's contrebasse and mister devil-may-care's violin conjure the ebb and flow of a phantom orchestra on a ghostly guingette. For seven years, Can.Ky.Ree has been burning it down in the dives of Chicago, leaving a trail of wondrous nights not soon to be forgotten.
