At Mengi Iceland. Friday, February 3rd 2017, 9pm.

Stephen Dorocke/Risofon, is the ongoing sonic research and exploration utilizing the “Resophone”, a modified and sometimes prepared metal body resonator guitar, set up for playing with a steel.
Sonically adventurous at a young age, thanks to the presence of a short wave radio in the family home, Dorocke continues the exploratory traditions of artists such as Sun Ra, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Harry Bertoia, Egisto Macch and Harry Partch, as well as Derek Bailey, Freddie Roulette, and Ry Cooder from a guitaristic standpoint. The worldly and cosmic sounds that surround us are influential in the sonic componentry of the Resophonian Dialect.

He has toured, performed, and recorded with Can.Ky.Ree, The Lofty Pillars, The Handsome Family and Freakwater, playing steel guitar (pedal and lap), guitar, violin, mandola/mandolin, and d’oud - a variant of the OUD, of which he has designed and built several iterations.

Áhugi tónlistarmannsins Stephen Dorocke á alls kyns hljóðarannsóknum kviknaði þegar hann var ungur að árum, þökk sé meðal annars stuttbylgjuútvarpi sem leyndist á æskuheimili hans. Á meðal tónlistarmanna sem hafa haft áhrif á hann og hvatt til áframhaldandi hljóðleiðangra má nefna Sun Ra, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Harry Bertoia, Egisto Macchi, Harry Partch, Derek Bailey, Freddie Roulette og Ry Cooder.

Stephen Dorocke hefur komið víða fram og hljóðritað plötur með tónlistarmönnum svo sem Can.Ky.Ree, The Lofty Pillars, The Handsome Family og Freakwater. Á meðal hljóðfæra sem hann spilar á í tónlistarverkefnum sínum eru gítar, fiðla, mandólín og d’oud, sem er sérsmíðað hljóðfæri Stephen Dorocke, sérstakt afbrigði af arabísku lútunni úd.

Stephen Dorocke býr og starfar í Chicago þar sem hann tekur virkan þátt í öflugri spunasenu stórborgarinnar. Á tónleikum í Mengi mun hann einbeita sér að hljóðlátari blæbrigðum hljóðfæris síns Resophone sem er nokkurs konar umbreyttur gítar.
