PUBLISHED:  Jan 15, 2017
DESCRIPTION:
Philadelphia: The Electric City

Built by Philadelphia Electric Co in 1920, the Delaware Generating Station was engineered to protect the city against a predicted power shortage of a growing industrial city. Delaware Generating Station was the largest of three power stations along the Delaware river.

Site Architect John T. Windrim envisioned a large building with high ceilings and tall glass windows to signify power and longevity in the city of Philadelphia. Offline since 2004, Delaware Generating Station maintains its presence in the city.
