Here we have the delicate and infectious 'Who's Been Here Since I Been Gone' by Bill Gaither, also known as 'Leroy's Buddy' (Leroy being Leroy Carr). Accompanying Bill (vocal and guitar) is Honey Hill on piano and celeste. The stand-up bass player and spoons player remain a mystery. The recording, originally made in 1936, completes the first of five volumes of CDs released on Document covering the complete recorded works of this Kentucky born bluesman who moved to Chicago and became a popular name with both record buyers and other bluesmen of the time, such as Big Bill Broonzy, Tampa Red, Jazz Gillum and Honey Hill.
