DESCRIPTION: UFO Concerto is the result of a commission that was extended to Johan de Meij in 2010 from euphonium soloist Jason Ham. Although originally conceived as a three movement work, UFO Concerto now stands at five movements and is a tour de force for both the soloist and the band. The Brass Band of Columbus joined the consortium in 2011 and is one of only five brass bands globally (and only two in the USA) that were a part of this group. This performance, recorded March 3, 2013 at the Lincoln Theater in Columbus, represents the American brass band premiere of this work. Jason also gave the world premiere of this concerto on January 19, 2012, at the Alabama Music Educator's Association Conference in Montgomery, AL, with the Auburn University Wind Ensemble.
