Born Kenneth Lateef Brewton, B.L.A.K.E. Eerie’s avant-garde music style is inspired by a substantial number of artists from different genres of music, from Marvin Gaye to Devin the Dude. B.L.A.K.E., born and raised in the city of Detroit, performs music that reflects the struggle he has experienced within his city limits. The very first solo project, the Been Livin’ And Keep Entertainin’ street album, came to life in 2006 and featured guest artists like Baatin (Slum Village); Leaf Erikson and Dak (AutoPilots); and Ace the Relentless (Final Judgment Ent.). The first full length album, SkyZone, was a self promoted, self released musical venture. The album features production from dak, Blackreign & Ohkang, 84 Tigers, Cream of Beats (Insomnia Music)and DJ Prime Minister. In 2007, he teamed up with Blackreign & Ohkang to work on a very different project called The FunTouchables, a fusion of popular rap music, old school underground hip hop, Motown soul, ghettotech music and a couple of other genres. The day after the release of the album in March 2008, they debuted it at the Magic Stick for the Metro Times Blowout 11! Over the Summer of 2008, He signed to DUB-CO Entertainment with Wayneeack X to expand his extensive underground hip hop resume. In November of 2008, He released his 4th project, "Secretary of Defense" on the DUB-CO Entertainment label. This project is a politically driven album which arrives right in time for the Preseidential Elections, calling for a change and moving the masses. His newest project is The Lateef EP. Done with Hugh Whitaker of Butter Made Records, it tells the deep story of 21st century post-riot Detroit from his perspective. This is done the same way as Yusef Lateef's Detroit, an album that serves dual purposes as the source of his middle name and sole inspiration of this project.
