Charlie Gracie - W-Wow - Video
PUBLISHED:  Aug 25, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
In 1961 after he was blacklisted by the music industry for taking a stand against record companies that would not pay proper royalties, Charlie Gracie found himself signed to Felsted records for this one-off single that went absolutely nowhere. On the top side, Charlie finds himself goofing around in the studio with a song where he makes an attempt to sound like Porky Pig (and does a really good job at it, too). The flip side (Makin' Whoopee) should've been what the record company was plugging as it had what it took to become a hit in 1961 but unfortunately it was not meant to be. Charlie Gracie still performs several shows a year all around the world and is known as a major influence on British musicians from the 1960's as well as other singers from Philadelphia who came after him. Cameo Parkway records stayed afloat at the beginning thanks to Charlie's first monster smash for them which allowed them to bring on other talent as well. Charlie is still putting out new music these days, even working with some of the musicians he influenced over 50 years ago. With a record such as this one, you just know he had to be having a lot of fun in the studio even if he wasn't having hits anymore.
