Hey Big Kid (an ode to Vinyl Cafe's Stuart McLean) Reid Jamieson - rare "Cottage Man" slide show - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 19, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
An ode to Canada's favourite storyteller STUART MCLEAN by friend and Vinyl Cafe regular Reid Jamieson. https://www.reidjamieson.com He will be much missed my all that were touched by his kindness, curiosity and charisma. A wee tiny song written for, and about, Stuart McLean, host of CBC/Public Radio’s Vinyl Cafe. It started out as a writing exercise Reid did while on tour with Vinyl Café., finishing it with the missus when he got home. They then presented it with a joyous slide show for Stuart’s 65th (sweet revenge for Stuart telling the whole country about their getting engaged in 2009 – before they told most of their friends!). This slideshow is of rare photos of Stuart at the cottage in Quebec as "Cottage Man". Available on Apple Music, Spotify and more and at https://www.reidjamieson.com

LYRICS

HEY BIG KID (written by Reid Jamieson and Carolyn Mill)

I remember
the first time I heard you
On the radio,
I started driving slow

Through tears of laughter
and sympathy
You made the scenery,
seem more real to me

How could I have known
That one day we would share this road
Makin words and music together
Bring it to the people
Through all kinds of weather

Hey big kid
Caught you playin with your words again

You let them spill across this country
And you made yourself a million friends

Hey big kid
All your travels will they never end?

And if you're lookin for a jukebox
you can call your own
All ya have to do is tune me in

And hey big kid,
you just made yourself another friend
Hey big kid,
we caught you playin with your words again
Hey big kid,
I hope this story never ever ends...
