DESCRIPTION:
A British recording, circa 1912, of P.M. Hacker's 'Comedy March' entitled 'Epler's Whiskers'. It is described on the label of the Ariel record from which it was transferred as: 'Ragtime'. Well; after a century, surely nobody would dispute that. It might be part cake-walk, part march? It certainly has a traditional march 'trio section' in a faster tempo. Anyway, it is a jolly piece IMHO, and quite well recorded by the Sound Recording Co., of London. They issued it first on their own label Grammavox. But the SRC supplied several other labels with custom pressings - or 'stencils', as they were known in those days - so this master could turn up on various other labels. In this case, it is on Ariel - a department store label that had great success between about 1910 and 1937. During that time, Ariel Records were made for J Graves of Sheffield, by several - indeed many - different companies.
