Johnny Fargo LIVE with Bart Ryan at Taix Restaurant, 2002 - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Johnny Fargo hosted the best Open Mic in LA for a few years in the early 2000's

This performance is from the 4th Annual open Mic celebration. Taix Restaurant even provided a buffet table in an open banquet room. The food was devoured by the almost homeless and under-employed musicians, and everyone was very happy with full bellies, music, and comraderie.

It was a fantastic night and we all remember it with fondness.

Taix Restaurant (Alvarado and Sunset) had the best lounge to relax in; with big comfortable chairs, heavy dark wood and a quiet atmosphere. On Wednesday nights, the musicians would gather for open mic, mutual support, and general comraderie. Many beautiful dreams were hatched it the hallways of Taix.

The open mic was never advertised and it was always packed. I only heard about it from some guy talking to another guy at another open mic in Hollywood. There were many memorable performances. We were lucky to be alive.

Johnny Fargo ran the show with cool control and we all eagerly awaited our assignment in the music cue. By the time the night ended at 2 AM the lounge was almost empty, except for a few enthusiastic diehards in the back; who would sing and laugh all the way out the door and into their car.

Taix had the biggest wine cellar in Southern California and authentic French cuisine. The wine was good and the food was great. I usually got the soup and salad. I don't drink any more, but in those days, I enjoyed the house red and the guitar blues...

Taix even had a real piano.

Salud.
