Aunque se empeñen en decir y escribir que soy de un monton de sitios, soy de Madrid, mis raices Guinea Ecuatorial y Avila, mucho mas facil, verdad?.
Todo empezo en casa, con la familia.
En cada cumpleaños de primos, tios y hermanos, nos poniamos a cantar y a bailar como si de verdaderos musicos se tratase. Al ver una actuacion de los Jackson 5 en la tv, me enamore de inmediato de la musica y del baile, eran algo magico y espectacular.
Estuve en una banda de R&B, llamada la Noche de la Iguana.
Profesionalmente, fue mas mucho mas tarde y por casualidad cuando me tome la musica en serio, en septiembre del 93, Malarians (Madrid), buscaba cantante femenina, les conoci personalmente en el bar Lieja, por aquel entonces de mi amigo Fernando Potencial, fue un viernes y quedamos para el siguiente miercoles hacer una prueba en su local de ensayo me aceptaron.
Reconozco que con ellos he aprendido mucho musicalmente. Los finales son tristes, pero me quedo con lo bueno de cada uno de los instantes que comparti con ellos.
Despues viene mi romance sin final con Potato(Vitoria), habia colaborado en algun disco con ellos, pero estaban empeñados en que participase en su directo y despues de la separacion de Malarians, cogi mis bartulos y con ritmos sincopados llegue a Vitoria. He grabado 3 discos con ellos.
En una de las giras que hice con Malarians por Italia, conoci al grupo Ramiccia y en el año 1999, me invitaron a grabar un disco juntos, Ramiccia meets Begoña.
He grabado Incomunikacion en 2002 con Fermin Muguruza y en 2003, forme parte de su banda en directo Kontrabanda.
Todo esto lo he ido alternando con mi formacion como cantante, estudiando y participando en actuaciones de Jazz.Aparte de colaborar con un monton de grupos y artistas en grabaciones.
En el año 2001, grabo mi primer disco en soliltario "Magia Negra", durante un tiempo, tocamos sin parar.
Tras un parenteis, en el año 2005, vuelvo al estudio y grabo mi segundo disco "Im thinking about you".
Actualmente afincada en la costa mediterranea, estoy preparando mi tercer disco junto a la gran banda "The Shake it ups" (Kisap)-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Begoña Bang-Matu was born in Madrid; she's been in
touch with music since her early childhood. Despite
there were no full time musicians in her family,
they all were talented for dancing and singing,
particularly her mother, who encouraged her to study
music.
She started up her career in music with R&B band "LA
NOCHE DE LA IGUANA". She enjoyed the band as much as
rehearsing till late at night when she wasn't old
enough for going out in the night!
In September 93 she was told that Madrid-based ska
band "MALARIANS" was looking for a singer.
She got the job and entered the band after getting
acquainted with them in bar Lieja.
Begoña was the first Spanish woman to sing classic
ska. She combined Jamaican music with jazz,
recording and performing with jazz project "JAZZ
ENTRE DIVAS".
She's been honored to play hundreds of gigs and meet
many Jamaican artists, legends of Reggae and Ska.
With
Malarians she recorded albums "Mind the Step" and
"Hostal Caribe" before the band split up in
September
2000. Quite a pity.
Begoña has sung as well together with Italian band
"RAMICCIA", with whom she recorded the album
"Ramiccia
meets Begoña". She's been touring with Laurel Aitken
and recording backing vocals for his album "Laurel
en
Español". She's been part of Spain's older Reggae
band
"POTATO", recording three albums with them, as
backing
vocalist and composer. In 2002 she records
"INKOMUNIKAZIOA" with Fermín Muguruza and she tours
the entire world in 2003 with the latter's band
"KONTRABANDA".
She's been recording with Amparanoia, Arpioni,
Skalariak, Skaparapid, and performing with
Belgian/Chilean ska band Proyecto Secreto. In 2001,
after a short rest, she recorded her first solo
album
"MAGIA NEGRA", backed by jazz musicians and former
components of Malarians. Since then, they've been
touring all over Europe.
In 2005 she records her 2nd album as a leader "I'M
THINKING ABOUT YOU", and promoting it with concerts
in Spain and Europe. Nowadays she's working in her
third album.
