NOS .1uF/400v Astron PIO Caps replace Sozos in 1959 Bassman - Video

DESCRIPTION:
What a difference a capacitor can make. I bought four NOS Astron Paper In Oil capacitors from the Netherlands. That was the only seller on eBay that had them. I'm happy to say they sound much better than the Sozo caps that were in there (between the Phase Inverter and the power tubes). Several years ago, the old, original yellow Astron cap shorted out so I replaced both caps just after the PI tube plates with the .1uF/400v Sozos I had on hand. I recently decided to experiment with these 9/1960 New Old Stock Astron PIO .1uF/400v capacitors. I'm glad I did. The amp has more sparkle and sustain. It pays to try different ones until you find something that sounds good. The best way I can describe a good one is it lets the guitar breath and it feels less choked. Some mediocre caps seem to choke off some of the good frequencies. These Astrons are very well balanced.

SAFETY WARNING! Please don't attempt any amp work unless you have studied all of the safety precautions you should take before doing any electrical work. I know just enough to be dangerous. I am very careful but still had a few sparks flying when I accidentally touched my meter probe to the wrong spot.
