Archie Bell & The Drells ~ Let's Groove 1975 Disco Purrfection Version - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Archie Bell & The Drells "Tighten Up" was THE dance smash of 1968...made irresistible with its friendly spoken intro over a seriously funky jingly guitar riff....The opening line from "Tighten Up" is "This is Archie Bell and these are the Drells, from Houston, Texas...." to let America know that something good came out of Texas after the assassination of President Kennedy, but this time they are here to let you know "We ain't got no time to lose" ....they hooked up with Gamble and Huff for "Dance Your Troubles Away" and came up with this classic album of great disco music. I really enjoyed putting this one together...love that groove! These ten minutes just whizz right by don't they? I really like what this song has to say..... but by 1975 the Gamble Huff machine was running out of gas. The dynamics between the legendary pair had changed. They were running out of hits after having created and refined the pop sensibilities of radio listeners from the late sixties to 1975. Their last big pop hit had been the O'Jays "I Love Music". Funny how they didn't evolve with the genre they created. Disco music was coalescing rapidly, the beat was everywhere. This album was recognized as a true classic accomplishment, Disco Guru Vince Aletti considers it to be a great album of disco music. I like it cos its Archie, and he sounds exactly the was he and the Drells did on "Tighten Up", and was wrapped in the most funky groove...I really fell in love with this one. The original version moved a little too fast for me, so I made this special extended disco version.
