..::Electroshop::.. [Concrete sound workshop] an original idea by Antonino Chiaramonte and Anna Troisi.

Music by: Anna Troisi.

..::Electroshop::.. has the form of an open working group and consists of performers, composers and artistic collaborators from around the world. It is a workshop, a live and fluid collective, where the building of sounding artworks (the “concrete” musical instruments) overlap the writing of the scores. A biunique correspondence between these created instruments and the music is thus created. It is in this way that the composition conforms to the concept of a “unique work of art”.

The individual sounding pieces constitute both artwork and musical instrument; being designed and expressly made in order to carry out the musical score. Each piece is essentially autonomous: possessing essential purpose – whether performing or silent. They are mechanical, electroacoustic, photoelectric sculptures that constitute real musical instruments that are able to be used for both acoustic and electroacoustic purposes.

..::Electroshop::.. original music creations could become key components in the production of open scores, where they would serve as guidelines for the performers, who are free to improvise within the boundaries of some predetermined modules (controlled improvisation).

During development and rehearsal, musicians are also encouraged to experiment interaction with pre-existent sound material played by means of an audio sequencing software.

Real time processing performance is chiefly obtained through the combined use of plug-ins (e.g. reverberation, delay, filters, pitch shifting, spectral transformation), together with original Max/MSP patches. Live electronics processes and elaboration typologies are established as well as real time changeable parameters are notated; performative actions on sounding pieces could manage musical events fixed on score.

The sounding objects are only fully revealed through the music composed with and for them, in the form of a “sounding pieces shop”. This would involve the promotion and sale of original and unique pieces (each a combination of sounding pieces and musical compositions) through auction in a public sale. This method guarantees the uniqueness of each musical performance: when the piece (the sounding piece of art) has been sold, it will be impossible to perform the related musical piece again unless ..::Electroshop::.. borrows the sounding piece from the buyer. Performance is the final part of production, bringing to fruition the ..::Electroshop::.. live exhibition that ends with the real sounding pieces being sold to the best bidder.
