Born in The Bronx, New York, Louise Angel Sabater began singing at the Bronx River Community Center talent show. Although her performance awarded her an acting scholarship to the school of Theatrical Arts, her gift of song conquered her desire to act and Angel began singing at talent shows around the Tri-State area. By the age of 19, Angel was a regular at many of the top New York City clubs, and one night she heard of a new group being formed. Angel, even though getting there so late that she had to persuade the auditioners to give her a shot, not only won the audition, but became the lead singer of a new group known today as The Cover Girls. With a dynamic lead singer, Angel and the Cover Girls were destined to outshine their peers. They worked their way through the competitive ranks with relative ease. Their self-titled debut album squeezed out hit after hit. Most notable would be Show Me, in the upper regions of the Billboard Charts. Show Me was the first independently distributed album to generate five Hot 100 singles. The success of the Show Me album led Angel and the Cover Girls to a recording contract with then industry giant Capitol Records. Their second album entitled We Cant Go Wrong charted three songs on Billboard, including a top 5 position for the title track. Angel and the Cover Girls toured the U.S. and countries abroad including Japan, London, Holland, Germany, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic, as well as national tours with Milli Vanilli, Stevie B, N.K.O.T.B, and Menudo. Promotions included television appearances on American Bandstand, Soul Train, Good Day New York, Good Morning L.A., and BETs Video Soul. Angel and the Cover Girls also signed endorsement deals for Sprite, Coca-Cola and Panasonic. The Cover Girls took home numerous awards including, Best Vocal Group at the New York Music Awards, the Silver Award at the Tokyo Music Festival, and The Apollos Top New Female Group. After the release of their third single, Angel and management could not come to common terms, which resulted in her decision to leave the group. Capitol Records, not pleased with the outcome, dropped the group from their contract, feeling that since the lead singer and key member was no longer involved, the group was virtually over. Angel proceeded to work with various producers on projects for Sony Music, and Hola Recordings. Her release of several charting singles, including a remake of Show Me which reached the 1 spot on the Billboard Dance Charts, ensured the industry and fans alike that Angel is and always has been The Star. Today, Angel remains busy in the studio working on new material as she continues to tour the country as The Original Cover Girl, performing all of our favorite Cover Girl hits. As head of Dance label Stylin Free Records and her fulltime behind the scenes involvement with La Entertainment, Angel plays an intricate role in many of the Freestyle/Dance concerts hosted around the country. Even though refurbished Cover Girl groups have been spotted lip-syncing over her original vocals, Angel remains as The Voice and The Only Choice among the Professional Promoters.
