This is probably the most straight ahead project I’ve done so far and I’m pretty excited about it. Since January I’ve been writing loads of tunes that lend themselves more to the traditional theme and variations setting of modern jazz. I’m really happy to be playing with a fantastic rhythm section - Sam Watts (piano, Dave Whitford (bass) and Matt Fishwick (drums) who swing hard, accompany brilliantly and imaginatively and are brilliant soloists too as you will hear. I usually like to play with another horn player and a lot of the tunes are written with that in mind. We’ve been playing with Nick Smart on trumpet and Steve Fishwick will join us for a gig at the Vortex on July 28th.
