I lift my eyes and search the heavens
Looking for signs of fighting’s end.
I hear the canons fade,
But there won’t be no victor’s song.
Ev’ry soul in this land
Send one voice into heaven.
I feel the sun washing us clean,
Free from the chains with which we’ve trod.
We got no captain now,
‘Cept this heart that will lead us on,
Making us one.
We must not forget God’s mercy leading us
Here to see the end of this our fight.
We walked the picket lines and we attest
Death was no judge of black or white
We must take our journey down this blood stained road,
Walking hand in hand with God our stone.
He will guide our feet as we cross this land
For which both blue and grey atone.
Make us like these young faithful soldiers.
Their fatal trials not soon forgot.
Give us their courage and strength
Loyalty, their fortitude to face what lies ahead.
And make us as one nation,
Judge us as one people,
Make us as one.
Make us as one.
