"ertia": Isamu + Panagiotis Andreou + Justin Brown - Video
PUBLISHED:  Mar 18, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
"inertia": lack of movement or activity especially when movement or activity is wanted or needed

I was thinking about the word inertia, and its basic meaning (lack of movement). And then I thought, well if "inertia" is a word, does that mean its opposite would be "ertia"? And would that mean movement? Or maybe even excessive movement?

This piece attempts to straddle the middle ground between what we think of as inertia, and this conceptual word "ertia". It is a simple variation on a theme, with parts slowly layering in and out, before breaking out into a new section for the finale. In comparison to other kinds of instrumental music, there is very little movement, from a harmonic/melodic standpoint. But if anything, this piece explores the different ways that "movement" can manifest itself - rhythmically, texturally, etc. And as a result, the significance of even the slightest musical variation is extremely magnified
