In The Beginning... (I-The Singularity) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 15, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
'In The Beginning...' is a work for big band and electronics. I composed this piece as my master's thesis. It is based on the 'Big Bang' Theory of cosmology. An hommáge to the beauty and elegance of science.

As the story goes, the universe began as a 'singularity', an infinitely hot, dense point lacking any volume. Musically, I represent this singularity with a B-flat sinewave which is present throughout the entire movement. I chose B-Flat because at the time I had just learned that in its' current state, the universe resonates at a B-flat, 57 octaves below C4.

The first movement, 'The Singularity' is my take on what happened right before the big bang occurred. I imagined it to have gone through a series of what I would call 'pulsations'. With each 'pulsation' the singularity grows, the universe inside struggling to break free but stifled by the immense gravitational forces and soon after, reverts back into its' initial state. Every attempt results in failure, until finally, the universe bursts into existence.

This movement is meant to be listened to in a dark room with no light or with your eyes closed. Oh, and with drugs. Lots and lots of drugs. JK. I included the trippy optical illusion/visual for good measure. And don't forget to play it LOUD!

At the end of this track, I include the first few seconds of the second movement 'The Big Bang' as each movement is played 'attacca'. The full second movement will be uploaded in the near future as will the third and final movement 'The Expansion'.

Enjoy!
