Josh Ritter concluded a three-night run at the City Winery on Sunday before an enthusiastic crowd. Backed by Zachariah Hickman, Ritter played both new and unrecorded material as well as some of his better known songs. I only pulled my phone out to record one sung, and it happened to be from the latter category. “Joy To You, Baby” is a song that NPR Music listed on its “50 favorite songs of 2013” list. According to NPR, “Most breakup songs wallow in at least one stage of grief, but few get all the way to acceptance. This one does, with generosity for everyone involved.” Yeah, I think they got that right.
