Virtuose du oud, pilier de la formation En Chordais et spécialiste des musiques anciennes et modernes de la Méditerranée, Kyriakos Kalaitzidis a réuni autour de lui quelques fidèles parmi lesquels l'Ensemble Constantinople et la grande chanteuse Maria Farantouri pour raconter en musique l'une des épopées fondatrices de l'histoire contemporaine de l'humanité.
Comme un écho à la description du monde par Marco Polo et aux contrées qu'il a traversées, les pièces se succèdent en évoquant la route de la soie et il y flotte de splendides arômes acoustiques. Et puis, au fil du voyage l'écoulement du temps - et donc une leçon de vie - se lit en filigrane.

A virtuoso oud player, artistic director and founder member of En Chordais cultural organisation and its music ensemble, and a doctor of Byzantine musicology, the ever impressive Kyriakos Kalaitzidis has now gathered together a group of devoted collaborators, including the Constantinople ensemble and the renowned Greek singer Maria Farantouri, in order to tell the musical tale of one of the defining periods of human history.
A sonorous evocation of Marco Polo's account of his epic voyage and the countries he travelled through, in which each track journeys on into the next, the the fragrant acoustics wafting us along this mellifluous spice route. And as the miles fly by, so time and history discreetly reveal their lessons for humanity.
