DESCRIPTION:
Channing Coker wrote this song, per Shelly Pomeroy's request, as a tribute to the life of her son, Benjamin Pomeroy.

Benjamin Pomeroy was the most energetic little 4 year old that you could imagine. He played hard; he was all boy. He was full of life and brightened up the room when he walked in. His favorite super hero was superman! He wore his superman shirt all the time!

On April 15, 2011, Benjamin had swollen Lymph Nodes on the side of his neck. For the last Four-Six months they had taken Ben to two different doctors, which both said it was normal. Then he was not eating much at all and seemed to not be as active as he normally was. The pediatrician said, "I don't know exactly what's going on, but you need to get to Birmingham and see a specialist to find out." The Pomeroy family arrived at Children's Hospital at 8:30 Thursday Night, and they did another CBC and ran other tests as well. Friday Morning, the doctor came in and told Ben's family the news that any parent would say is their Worst Nightmare. The doctors told them they were 90-95 percent sure that Ben had Leukemia. They confirmed, the next day, that he had Leukemia - Type B.

Everything seemed to be going as well as possible, and they were very optimistic until the doctors discovered that Ben also had a rare chromosome disease as well. This doubled his trouble to fight for his life. Chemo and radiation made him one very sick little boy. He suffered many complications such as renal failure, HVGD but through it all, he stayed strong, fought bravely, and always kept a smile on his face.

On July 19th, Benjamin received a stem cell transplant from an overseas donor and things started looking up. He continued chemo and things started getting even better. Within 30 days, it seemed as if Benjamin was in remission and everyone was so happy. However, he had to stay in the hospital, in Birmingham, because his immune system was non-existent. He was very sick & tired throughout his fight, but he constantly told everyone how everything would be okay, because Superman never gives up!

On day 60, things were still looking good - no cancer and the stem cell graft was holding, which meant his bone marrow was excepting his donor's marrow. On day 100 of the transplant, the family was informed that his cancer had returned and that it was more aggressive than before. The doctors gave Benjamin a short life expectancy. Ben could no longer have radiation because he had already reached the lifetime limit. The doctors did not believe that he would make it to Christmas. At this point, they were concerned with his quality of life and making him comfortable.

He became his hometown hero, in Eufaula Alabama. Many people learned more about life from Ben throughout his 7-month battle, than you could imagine. He brought a community together like I have never witnessed before and also impacted the lives of people all over the world!!! On January 19, 2012, Ben passed away, but he will forever live in the hearts many.
