Note from V -
"Friends, I'm honored to share with you one of the most personal creations I've ever released. Inspired by the film GASLAND which led to a rapid evolution of my mind, I wrote & released an EP which is now my band name, titled Beast Patrol. This song is about the loss and need for community amongst the chaos of our modern world. The beautiful video is by artist Max Gleason (www.maxgleason.com).

Slip on up the hill
Fall into the ground
Find yourself a love
Find yourself a town
For all of us

MG: coming of age...adulthood...putting down roots??

VB: yes...and the "...(town)..for all of us" comes from the scarcity of healthy community in this country. Again, I was inspired by my town under threat from large industry, specifically oil & gas as well as the overall state of all things commercial these days and all the fucked shit with that.

Leave it all to be
When the last ones grown

MG: ?? who's grown...kids??

VB: yes, the last being the youngest.

Only hit the breaks
When you have to give
What they can take

MG: this reminds me of something you said "don't have kids until you're ready to not be totally self-involved"...only hit the breaks when you can give yourself to a new life??

VB: I like that and it prob stems from there too but this is post-birth. You've raised them, done the best you could, and should only stop or hit the breaks with that valiant effort when they are ready to listen. There was little filter with what I was told growing up and it confused me. I would have liked to have more of a childhood in that sense.

It's already broken
It's already broken

MG: nothing is picture perfect. nothing lasts forever

VB: Yes. but specifically the "system" is broken that once supported the land and people, thus the sadness of the song.

City on lock
City on lock down
City's on lock down for the day
I don't wanna miss it
But I don't wanna wake up
They say you can't go nowhere today

MG: i love this verse, tho i don't know how it fits in thematically with the rest. i always see arab spring (just because those images are so fresh and ubiquitous)

VB: This was inspired by Egypt and my desire for the same to happen in the states, which fast forward a few months it did in Zucotti. I wanted people to recognize their potential to change their reality. The city "on lock" means under siege, chaos. To me, this song flows and builds as ones life does up to a climactic break where shit isn't safe anymore and you have to make some hard decisions. It could be as simple as a mid-life crisis or a revolution. I don't want to wake up to the reality of it, but there's no way I will miss it.

Oh let's chase it.
Chase.

MG: even tho we know it's already broken (or will break), let's chase the picture perfect dream?

VB: Picture perfect dream not so much. More like, let's chase whatever enigmatic peak we're headed towards because ultimately the bubble will burst and we will enter the next phase of life, thus the calm after that bridge that leads you out of the song.
