Callahan Aria at the Mother Church, Boston - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jul 29, 2008
DESCRIPTION:
Thomas Richner performs Charles Callahan's Aria. Listen to those distinctive Skinner strings kick in at about 1:04. There's no other sound quite like it. The 1952 Aeolian-Skinner, at the time of this recording (late 1980's), had 237 ranks & 13,595 pipes. In the late 90's, a controversial "renovation" removed 35 ranks of principals, mixtures & reeds & added (shudder)2 electronic voices (32' Contre Bourdon & Untersatz).
