DESCRIPTION:
Jamaica Public Service Company Limited ( JPS) earlier this year signed a partnership agreement with Crime Stop Jamaica, as part of the Company’s ongoing efforts to deal with the crime of electricity theft.
With this new partnership, JPS will pay rewards of up to $100,000 for reports that lead to the successful discovery of illegal connections, the recovery of lost revenue and / or the arrest of persons responsible for the theft.
Under the terms of the agreement, Crime Stop will facilitate calls from persons using the 311 number to report theft. Callers will be required to provide the name and address of the business stealing electricity, the name of the business owner, and the method of illegal abstraction being used by the business if this is known. Crime Stop will then pass on this information to JPS for investigation. JPS will include the police in these investigations, as needed. Rewards will be paid within two weeks after the investigation is closed.
