There is no question about what Detroit’s own “The Black List” has set out to accomplish: mayhem with a melody. This high-energy quartet has quickly caught the attention of the Detroit music insiders as the band to pay attention to in the future. Taking a cue from other Detroit artists like The Stooges and MC5, the live show is a no-frills sonic kick in the mouth. This combined with memorable melodies; insightful lyrics, layered feedback and a blue collar work ethic. There is no doubt after seeing The Black List - you have witnessed the new pride of the Motor City.
The Black List's heart and soul is front man Jim Walkup. A veteran of the Detroit music scene, Jim’s voice and pure energy has lent itself to Detroit’s staple “Blindshot” and “12 Steps Behind” His right hand, Bassist Mike Schoonover, plays with the energy and conviction of a man possessed. Mike comes from the Detroit underground punk scene as the voice of “The Jolly’s” and the bassist of “Detroit 442”. Mikes counter part and Rounding out the group is percussionist Jay Miller from “A Darker Broadcast” and “Lazyboy”. Jay play's with the precision of a Swiss Clock, and almost a chip on his shoulder as he integrates musical fills to his pulse pounding rhythms.
Some of the past gig’s that The Black List has played includes: Detroit’s Warped Tour, Metro Times “Hamtramck Blowout”, The Blind Pig, The Magic Stick, Masonic Temple’s “Fountain Ballroom”, Emerald Ballroom, Small’s, Northern Lights Lounge and The Twenty-five Hundred Club just to name a few. With the highly anticipated release of a full length Album in the spring of 2007, The Black List will be appearing in a venue near you to redefine a live performance and re energize the degraded music scene.
The Black List has preformed with The Draft, The Pink Spiders, Dead to me, Koffin Kats, The Independents, Bedford Drive, The Whiskey Diaries, Hairy Drain Babies, The Amino Acids, Best Idea Ever, Sons of Strippers, Far from Finished, Guns on the Run, Street Crime, Malpractice, The Cameo In, The Brian Schram Band, Troubleman, Left in Ruin, Cetan Clawson Revolution, Thieves Agreement and Season High.
