THE SLEEP began in october 2006 as a STAND AS ONE side project
featuring Pascal on drum and J-F on guitar. With a constant
changing line-up, the band only found their actual line-up
in late december with Matt, ex-The First Fire, on drum and
Yann, ex-ARROGANCE, on Vocal. Pascal took back his guitar
and asked Guillaume who was also a part of STAND AS ONE, to
join the band as the bass player.
Taking two months to write
several songs, they appeared on the stage for the first time
on march 2007. Since then, THE SLEEP never stopped impress their
different crowds with their groovy hardcore influenced by bands
such as Santa Sangre and Godbelow as well as classical rock bands
and southern acts like Led Zeppelin, CCR, Down, Lynyrd Skynyrd,
Crowbar and Black Sabbath.
The band quickly realized that THE SLEEP
was no longer a side project When STAND AS ONE broke up in august
2007, THE SLEEP became a full-time band. Drawing their influences
from hardcore to southern and classical rock, they sound like pure
brutality. Untypical tough guy vocals with "gas pumping" riffs
patterns mixing aggressive rythm lines on bass and drum that put
on the frontline every blackened melodies.
With a different
lyrical approach from their previous projects, THE SLEEP became
without any doubt, one of the most engaged band hailing from the
province of Quebec. Their political activism in the musical scene
made them a contoversal band with texts about environement, politic,
capitalism, corruption, authority abuse, medias, religion,
consumption and more social and philosophic aspects. THE SLEEP's
left wing is not something the band is trying to impose on their
crowds, they say what they feel is right and honest.
After rehearsing for 5 months and performing a lot of shows, the
band took the decision to record their first EP in june 2007 at
XProd studio in Ste-Marie-de-Beauce with Stéfane Rancours, drummer
for Pascale Picard Band. The result of their first effort was far
more than expected and sounds like a tone of feathers. heavy but
sweet to ears. On september 12th, Guillaume did his last show with
The Sleep in Ste-Marie and went on a different way after. Dave,
a friend of the band quickly took his place in the band after
a single jam and THE SLEEP called it quit in late febuary 2010 after a two months coma.
