Dead King started in February of 2006, but was originally formed in July 2001 under the name of Forsaken Trust.
The original members (Mario Massie, Rich Boivin, Ben Gareau and Chris Lefebvre) wanted to diversify themselves from the Punk/Ska bands in their hometown of Gatineau, Qc. The band was together up till July 2004 and played their last show on September 11th 2004 at the Gatineau Hardcore Fest. They also played two "Reunion" shows in 2005 before retiring the name Forsaken Trust.
It was in February 2006 that the 4 original members decided to start a new band. Having had many bassists in 3 years with their old band, they found a permanent member, John Laflamme, to play in Dead King.
Musically, Forsaken Trust was influenced by Mosh bands like Hatebreed and A Death For Every Sin. In Dead King, they wanted to play something more evolved and technical with southern rock and metal influences like Santa Sangre and Down.
The Band wrote a handful of songs, four of which were recorded for their Sampler CD, released in August 2006. Their first show was in Ottawa, Ontario, playing the opening slot for Terror and Death Before Dishonor. They later played with bands like Freya, Iron Age, GFK, Comeback Kid and Cancer Bats.
Dead King went on hiatus in November 2007, after playing at the Gatineau Hardcore Fest. Ben went on to play in Gatineau's finest pop punk band, Hartford; while Richard formed the experimental rock band, Dancing On Fire.
In March 2009 they started jamming again, without Chris, and played a reunion show with Madball and Wisdom In Chains, in Ottawa, on May 7th. As of July 1st they have yet again disbanded.
