The Holy Modal Rounders Same Old Man - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jun 19, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
The Holy Modal Rounders were an American folk music duo from the Lower East Side of New York City who started in the early 1960s. They consisted of Peter Stampfel and Steve Weber - and for a time the band also featured the prolific playwright and actor, Sam Shepard.

The duo lay claim to being the first act to feature the words psychedelic in their lyrics! Their first album, The Holy Modal Rounders, was released in 1964, and their version of "Hesitation Blues" featured the first use of the term "psychedelic" (here pronounced as "psycho-delic"). So now you know!

Anyway, this track manages to sound both truly ancient and yet somehow also very NYC mid-1960s at the same time. It also avoids the slightly grating vocal style they were sometimes guilty of.

Top stuff.
